Today we got a newsletter from a professional in the Mortgage Industry. We don’t know this person, but not a big deal.
Five minutes later we received an angry “UNSUBSCRIBE ME” email in reply to this newsletter. Two minutes later a “STOP SENDING ME EMAILS” email came through…this barrage of unwanted emails has continued for the last hour.
The original sender CC’d their whole email list for this newsletter. Now every single person not only can see her full list, but also is irritated by the unsubscribe requests and they are now asking for the same “removal” treatment.
IF this person had used MailChimp (our favorite) or Constant Contact (our second favorite) bulk email programs then most of the people in her newsletter list would not have joined in the unsubscribe party. By keeping those folks at minimum reading the subject line of your monthly newsletter, you will stay in the forefront of their mind. But, now if anyone on this list gets an email from this person in the near future, they will only be left with a negative impression.
Newsletters are a great way of keeping folks at minimum reading the subject line of your monthly newsletter. They allow you to stay in the forefront of their mind. But, please do not send them as a CC (or even a BCC) from your email client. Use a tool that allows people to unsubscribe properly. Also, these tools will allow you to create far more attractive emails….
